Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic clash for a third Masters final this year as Nadal looks to halt the 33 match win-streak of the Serb.
For years, the main rivalry in men’s tennis has been Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer. A new rivalry has emerged in 2011, however with Novak Djokovic taking Federer’s place.
Nadal and Djokovic have already met in two Masters finals in Indian Wells and Miami with Djokovic winning both...but that was hard courts.
The Serb has never managed to snag a win over Nadal on clay, though he was a point away from doing so in Madrid two years ago in one of the greatest non-Slam matches of all time. The Spaniard has amassed a 9-0 record on clay over Djokovic and owns a 16-9 overall record over the Serb.
Nadal has played better than Djokovic this week. In particular, the Serb had difficulty finding his range against Thomaz Bellucci in the semifinals, going a set and a break down before clawing his way back for the win. Nadal’s semifinal against Roger Federer was also a 3-set affair, but Federer played magnificent tennis in the opening set before the Spaniard raised his level.
